The Spring Conference will start off with the ever popular Parents Meeting, followed by the Annual General Meeting. Natasha Rochford, ECE, will be managing the children's room again and Devin Dawson, RMT, will also be on hand for complementary massage bookings.


Dr. Kathryn S. Walker, Ph.D., C.Psych., Clinical Health Psychologist at the Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto General Hospital will be our special guest presenter at the Medical Seminar.

Topic: Mental Health and Congenital Physical Disability (i.e. complications of Dwarfism)
Examining the psychological side of dwarfism or more broadly, growing up and living with a congenital condition or physical disability.


Afternoon Medical consultations with Dr. Roberto Mendoza, MD, MSc, FCCMG, FRCPC, Interim Division Chief Clinical and Metabolic Genetics and Ms Lucie Dupuis, M.Sc, MS, CGC Genetic Counsellor, Clinical Genetics, from the Hospital for Sick Children will be available as well as Dr. Michael Ford, MD, FRCSC, Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery from the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Please indicate on your registration if you would like to set up an appointment. (Space is limited.)

LPO’s Sports component at the Spring Conference has become one of the cornerstones to this annual program and has continued to grow each year.

On Saturday afternoon there will be a LP Basketball game for Open class (16+ yrs old LPs only) and Junior B (12-15 yrs old LPs only) class athletes and optional participation for the Junior A (7-11 yrs old LPs only) class. For the Futures (3-6 yrs old LPs and AH) class and optionally Junior A classes, a Floor Hockey session followed by a Boccia session will be run. NB: Junior A (7-11 yrs old) have the choice on Saturday of a Basketball session OR Floor Hockey and Boccia sessions. As the Floor Hockey and Boccia Sessions will be run concurrently with the Basketball session, no switching between sessions will be allowed.

On Sunday morning, Swimming Ontario Paralympic Recruitment Division and the Guelph Marlins Swim Club will be running a “Try-It” Swim Event. This session is open to all who can swim. In the afternoon on Sunday there will be a LP Soccer game for Open class and Junior B class players. There are no activities planned in the afternoon for Futures and Junior A class players.

Topic: Mental Health and Congenital Physical Disability (complications of Dwarfism)
Examining the psychological side of dwarfism or more broadly, growing up and living with a congenital condition or physical disability.


Dr. Walker is a registered clinical and health psychologist who works with adults, children, adolescents and families.  She completed her graduate training at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  During her residency and postdoctoral fellowships at The Hospital for Sick Children she trained in the treatment of eating disorders, obesity, diabetes, adolescent medicine, burns, oncology, and chronic pain.  Dr. Walker has worked as a clinical health psychologist in the Chronic Pain Clinic at The Hospital for Sick Children, and is now the clinical health psychologist with the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Clinics at Toronto General Hospital and at The Hospital for Sick Children.  Her work focuses on living well with chronic health conditions and emotional literacy and coping skills.

Even if you are not a sports participant, come out and be a fan to cheer on what could be the next Team Canada. Bring your friends and family to get our athletes “pumped up” for the 2021 World Dwarf Games.

Reminder: Please complete the Sports Registration portion of the form for each Sport participant. Only one registration fee is required per family.

**Please consider bringing a snack or small lunch if participating in both training events on the Saturday and/or Sunday.**

Like every year, participants must be dressed appropriately to play. Including gym clothing and proper shoes. We encourage anyone who wants to wear their Team Canada uniforms to please do so! You are welcome to wear additional protective gear as you see fit. Eye protection has been generously donated for the Floor Hockey tournament. Feel free to contact Brittany Theis (Sport Coordinator) if you have any questions through email at sports@lpo.on.ca. We will keep you updated of anything you need to know right up until the Spring Conference.

Waiver: As in any activity, chance of injury is always a possibility. It’s important that you know your own limits and abilities and play within them. We will do our best to make sure everyone is playing fairly and there is no roughhousing or inappropriate behaviour. Rules will be laid out prior to play and all participants are expected to abide by them. Proper equipment and clothing must be worn during all activities. Any person who does not adhere to this will not be allowed to participate. By submitting this registration you recognize the inherent risk that comes with playing any sport and will not hold LPO or officials liable for any injury that may be sustained while participating.
