Summer Research and Communications Associate

Little People of Ontario (LPO) is a registered charitable organization, providing life-long fellowship, support and information to people of short stature (dwarfism), their families and friends in Ontario.

Duties and goals of this summer student contract position:

Research, creation and preparation of educational and support material for school staff on safety and accommodation for students with dwarfism. Communications plan development and awareness campaign preparation.

We are looking for a summer research and communications associate(s) to research, create and prepare educational and support material for the following projects:

  1. Written Best Practices Policy Material for Board of Education and school administrators and staff in:
    1. Elementary Schools
    2. Middle Schools
    3. High Schools
  1. A presenters’ or speakers’ slide / PowerPoint anti-bullying / don’t tease presentation in for students in:
    1. Elementary Schools
    2. Middle Schools
    3. High Schools
  1. Communications Plan Development
    1. Calendar of Communications
    2. Member Communication
      1. eBlast
      2. Newsletter
    3. Dwarfism Awareness Campaign preparation
      1. Education and Outreach
        1. Yet to be accessed LP community
        2. Medical Professionals (MD, OT, PT, RT)
        3. General public - anti-bullying, anti-harassment
      2. October as Dwarfism Awareness Month
      3. October 25th as Dwarfism Awareness Day

The Summer Associate will report to the organization president. A mentorship program is also available.

 The job will be full time, between 9 am and 5:30 pm Monday to Friday. Flexible hours are available between 8.30 am and 7.30 pm.

Successful Student Applicant Criteria: Applicants must be a full-time student between 15 and 30 years of age.  The successful candidate would have a special understanding of the Little People (LP) community with the ability to represent and express the perspective of a LP.  The idea applicant would have strong verbal, written and organizational skills with the ability to meet project milestones and deadlines through open dialogue with their supervisor via meetings and progress reports. (Fluency in French would be an asset.)
